PageRank and Inbound Links

Thinking of PageRank as a popularity vote is a great way to understand how it works. If you read my post on "5 Easy to Follow Tips That Will Help Your Blog Rank Higher", I'm sure you noticed the number 1 item on that list was about incoming links to your site.

It's not just about any old incoming link though. You need good quality inbound links. Let's say you run xyz.com and you have a PageRank of 2. You published an article last year that featured homemade Halloween decorations you made. You're traffic went through the roof. Everyone was stopping by and visiting your blog, checking out your rockin' deco. This year, abc.com with a page rank of 8, features xyz.com in their article on homemade Halloween decorations. They provide a link back to your site. That, my friend is a quality inbound link and it's better to have 5 quality inbound links than 10 regular inbound links.

With that being said, any inbound link to your site will help. Just not as much as a quality one. Encouraging customers, bloggers, readers and subscribers to link to your site is a great idea. Here's a couple other ideas for link building:

Participate in Forums. Ask or answer questions on Yahoo! Answers and link back to your site with relevant resources. Link to a previous post you've done within your site when it's relevant. Link to your site in your email signature. Link to your site on social media platforms. Leave reviews on local businesses you've visited on sites like Yelp. Review related sites on Alexa to draw in related traffic streams. List your blog in blog directories. Email a couple friends when you have important relevant news asking them for their feedback and/or if they would mind referencing it if they find your information useful.

The possibilities are truly endless. Another thing to keep in mind is the way people are linking back to your site, including yourself.

If you are interlinking your posts, make sure you are using the proper link text. You want the link text leading to your article to be relevant to its content. The words "here" or "site" are not very detailed. The link text basically reinforces the main topic of that page. This is commonly known as Relevance Scoring. If you exchanged links with another Blogger, tell them how they should link back to your site. Many people are unaware that the link text is even important.

Four other things you should know about PageRank and Links:

1. Getting more sites to link to your site is a great way to Rank higher.

2. Links from pages that have a crap load of other links aren't that valuable.

3. If you link to another site it does not drain your PageRank. No matter what their rank is.

4. SEO is not only about Meta Tags because not all search engines use them as a way to determine page content and rank. Google and Yahoo use the full-page content PLUS page rank and link text to decide what keywords you page will score well for.

What ways do you build inbound links?

Looking Closely at Spring's Deadly Twisters

The carnage being dealt out in this deadly spring of 2011 is headed for the record books for death and destruction, possibly one of the worst on records.

The Numbers Say

Numbers from the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) show there has been nearly 1,200 deadly twisters that have danced there way across the United States causing unprecedented damage and killing close to 500 men, women, and children. There have been 4 that have had winds in excess of 200 miles per hour rated EF-5 the highest tornado strength allocated.

Scientists have pointed to the fact there have been two climate factors that have been working against us since winter ended. A simple reason for all the deaths is that there are more people now living in the danger zones that twisters travel. Population shifts have moved south where a lot of this years deadly storms have traveled.

La Nina's Disappearance

Trade winds that have become cyclical in nature called La Nina cool the ancient waters of the Pacific Ocean.

Late in 2010 and early in 2011 when the US was under the influence of a very powerful La Nina it suddenly made an unexpected exit three months ago leaving weather scientists scratching their heads why this happened.

A claim made by a climatologist, one Bill Patzert, working in California for NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab states that if La Nina had remained strong and not disappeared he believes that there would not have been so many deadly twisters spawned.

What Is The Correlation?

How is it trade winds in the warm Pacific have a deadly effect in the central and southern US? We simply have to look at the jet stream, an upper level fence where dry, cool air comes in at the higher levels to meet moist, warm gulf stream air at the lower levels. These just happen to be two of the ingredients needed for severe deadly storms that spin out of control causing the death and destruction we have seen of late.

If La Nina had stayed around it would have pushed the jet stream to higher latitudes, up around the Canadian border, thus having a stabilizing effect on the US and the region. What we have now is a rogue jet stream that is undulating across the US slithering like a snake. Very uncommon for this time of year. Cool, dry Canadian air mixing with moist, warm southern gulf stream air is a deadly mix that has wreaked havoc so far this spring and caused unprecedented damage and loss of life. So far this year those two types of air have been to the extreme on both ends.

The Two Extremes

Climatologists stated because of the record snowfalls to the north the snow packs have made the Canadian air and the air in the Rockies especially cold. The especially strong La Nina has fueled the hot conditions we have seen in the southwest until recently.

Adding to the extremes is the increase in the Gulf of Mexico temperatures on the surface making it warmer than the overall average. Climatologists remind us that moist, warm air from the gulf is like oxygen to a fire, it is the perfect fuel to cause extremely severe thunderstorms that spawn the death and destruction we have seen.

Horrifying Results

When these two very extreme temperatures meet in the atmosphere, combined with windy conditions we have almost every spring, the warm air rises to meet the cold air causing turbulence to occur, and usually resulting in very powerful thunderstorms running on a front long and wide spawning little circles of death that sometimes reach a mile wide with winds reaching over 200 miles per hour.

These spinning tops, with winds in excess of 200 mph, destroy almost everything they come into contact with on the ground leaving the paths of destruction we have seen in Joplin, Mo. and Piedmont OK. recently. There have been 4 of these dancing devils that have been classified EF-5 this spring resulting with over 500 deaths and property damage into the billions. They are still finding bodies in Joplin as I write. In stark contrast to this number there were only three EF-5 designated tornadoes in the last 12 years according to the weather channel.

Conclusion

Everyone has agreed in the science of weather community that this spring has been one of the most deadly and violent on record. Not meaning to generalize, but it seems when we have long cold hard winters to the extreme with lots of snow pack we also have conditions in the spring that lend itself to the extreme causing much damage and loss of life. This is a reality that has gone on for a long time in North America and effects no other continent like it does here. With populations growing in the tornado alleys of the south and Midwest there will be even more death and destruction coming in the near future with more long hard winters being predicted. There is one thing for sure that is going on. Climate change is here and nothing man can do will change it.

A Grand Dad, His Grand-Kids and His iPad

I was blessed enough in the sixth decade of my life to have been able to purchase an iPad 2 when they first came out. I can honestly say that it has been an enjoyable journey that continues to this day. The learning curve wasn't so bad since I owned an iPhone about three or four years prior.

Granted the iPad can't do all the things I was doing on my desktop and laptop (I was a PC guy), but that wasn't a big problem. And my iPad just lets me be mobile in ways I couldn't with a laptop. Try telling your 2 year old grand kids to wait while your laptop turns-on or shuts-down, when they're ready to go.

Speaking of the grand kids, my 2 year old grand daughter has become quite a navigator on grandpa's iPad. It's great to see her little fingers sliding around the screen, she knows how to get to her games and childrens movies I loaded on it. But the really cool part is when she gets stuck on something, then looks at me and speaks in tot-oneese "papa hep". That's when my whole world stops for a moment. We can sit there side by side and look at the screen together and find a way to solve or learn or just have a good time scrolling the screen looking for something else to do.

Sure we play in the back yard with the cats and dog. Or I turn on the bubble machine and let them run through the bubbles. We have a rabbit we let out in the back yard and play hide and seek with. But when grand dad needs a break, the iPad comes out and most times it's all good.

Finding games/apps that will keep the kids content is not a problem. If you look hard and long in the App Store you will find appropriate entertainment for the kids in all of us. And boy are there a lot of apps that can be found in the AppStore. Lots of free apps teasers, these are the ones that are free to try, then to get to higher more difficult levels there's a small fee. It's not a bad thing since it gives you a chance to see if the kids or you like the free app before you spend money on it. There are iPad learning apps for children and learning game apps for all ages. My other grand daughter had trouble with the letters 'b' and 'd'. A couple sessions using an alphabet app and she got it down, the interactive, fun and easy way.

I just have to say it's been an awesome time playing with the iPad and the grand-kids. I know it's a great tool, but it's also a grand kid magnet, and that's a pretty good thing!

Video Content Marketing: Sharing the Value of a Video

It shouldn't come a surprise that video content marketing has drastically increased in popularity of late. As we all know, our society in general has a remarkably short attention span. This is undoubtedly the result of our modern fast-pace culture created by the internet driven information era. The addition of video to your website or blog content can drastically improve you relevance in both the eyes of Google and your target audience. Visitors to your blog or website are far more likely to stay longer if your written content I paired with a relevant and informative video.

Video Content Marketing: Syndicating Videos

One of the easiest video content marketing strategies is syndication. As I mentioned before, including a video in your blog posts can help immensely. Not only are viewers far more likely to stay on your page for an extended period of time, but they are also more likely to comprehend your message.

As a video content marketing strategy, you should initially post your video on a popular hosting website like YouTube. Videos posted on YouTube are ridiculously easy to embed into your blog post. In the world of internet marketing, social sharing is incredibly valuable. Generating a social buzz around some content you produced is essentially free marketing. By creating a video relative to your written content, you are far more likely to have your information shared with additional parties.

Video Content Marketing for SEO Purposes

SEO, or search engine optimization, is specific way to present your content to gain attention from popular search engines; most notably Google. As you may already know, there are both on-page and off-page SEO strategies. While the on-page process consists f creating content around a targeted keyword, off-page SEO is rather different.

The majority of off-page SEO consists of creating backlinks. When evaluating the relevance of your site to a search query, Google considers both the number and quality of backlinks your website has. Because of video's increasing online importance and YouTube's global popularity, backlinks from this social media giant are considered highly valuable. In other words, by simply pairing each of your blog posts with a video posted initially on YouTube, you can gain an additional high PR backlink for each article written.

Video Content Marketing: Additional Social Media Platforms

Video is considered to be a very sharable form of content. It is simply much easier to get someone to watch a video than read an article. Because videos have viral tenancies, establishing an online presence within various social media platforms can be incredible for video marketing. In case you do not already now, Facebook and Twitter are two of the most trafficked websites online.

After building a decent online following and joining niche-relevant groups/fan-pages, you will have an audience to share your videos with. All major social media platforms provide video viewers with the option to share the content with those in their social circle. Because of this, video content marketing on social media websites can increase your traffic exponentially.

By shaking up the ways you present your content, you will create a more engaging blog presence, encourage greater interaction, and ultimately help your business thrive.

Pausing to Catch My Breath - Book Review

Debra Warren has appropriately titled her book of poetry 'Pausing to Catch My Breath'. The pages depict this mother and grandmother as someone who I would personally love to sit across from at a kitchen table with a huge pot of tea and talk for hours.

Her style implements simple vocabulary with an honest appeal, yet her work is astoundingly moving. This is the kind of poetry that I like to read at a slow pace in order to allow the statements to really sink in. 'I think' is a good example of what I mean. 'Today' challenges readers to see beyond the mundane, by considering what others are experiencing that very moment. 'Its Never Too Late' was a moving piece about many kinds of incarceration. I related with 'Trapped', especially where she wrote, "I am trapped inside a body that betrays". 'Pausing to Catch My Breath' is a particularly beautifully written piece. I hope to retain in memory my favorite line of this poem, "Hearing the music, I dance to my yesterdays". Debra also displays an appealing sense of humor in her work. I loved the imagery of viewing cruel and stupid people as "human speed bumps" along the road of life.

'Pausing to Catch My Breath' most certainly displays Debra's ability to use uncomplicated prose to create deep emotion, intellectual thought and crisp images.

To find out more about this book simply visit the publisher's site, Publish America Inc at http://www.publishamerica.com Readers may order Debra Warren's book (ISBN#:14137767478) through any library, retail bookseller or online bookstore.

Liposuction - What You Should Know

Liposuction And Weight Loss

If you're thinking that liposuction is a great way to lose weight, forget about it. Liposuction isn't about weight loss at all. It's all about sculpturing and contouring the body to remove excess fat deposits that aren't willing to go away with diet and exercise no matter how hard you try. It's about looking good in that swimsuit AFTER you've lost all the weight that you're going to lose.

Women love liposuction, but men dabble in it too. Women tend to have it done on their abdomen, thighs, knees, hips, chin or neck while men usually treat their neck, chest, abdomen, and "love handles."

In all but a very few isolated instances liposuction is strictly cosmetic which means your insurance company won't be footing the bill for your new belly or butt. Your insurance company MAY get involved, however, if your treatment is prescribed for certain medical conditions including enlarged male breasts in men and certain fat deposits, such as "buffalo hump" which is caused by a hormone imbalance.

How Liposuction Works

Liposuction is a procedure whereby fatty tissue is literally sucked from under the skin using a hollow wand which is attached to a suction device. Local anesthetics and other compounds including saline, and epinephrine are administered to control swelling and bleeding.

Once the patient is prepared the doctor inserts the wand, called a "cannula" through small incisions which are made in the skin. They push and pull the wand through the fatty cells causing them to break up and to be suctioned off along with other body fluids. That's about as complicated as liposuction gets from the actual procedural point of view.

Different Types Of Liposuction

There are several different types of liposuction procedures in use. Each procedure is based upon the amount of fluid which is (or isn't) injected during the procedure.

Dry Liposuction uses no fluid and is rapidly falling from favor. Wet Liposuction is where the doctor injects six to eight ounces of ephinephrine. Superwet Liposuction uses the most fluid. Basically, the more fluid that is injected during the procedure, the less blood that is lost. The Risks

While the liposuction procedure is relatively safe when performed by a Cosmetic or Plastic Surgeon, it is not without its risks and side effects up to, and including, death in very rare instances (about 20 out of 100,000). Infections have been reported in some cases as well as "seroma" which is a pooling or oozing of body fluid.

Swelling, bruising and locally painful areas are almost a guaranteed side effect of liposuction and you can expect to lose a week or more from work during recovery. In almost all instances the procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and you'll be home the same day.

An unexpected side effect of liposuction is that the fat can return and, often times, it returns to a different area from where it was removed. This is believed to be caused by drops in leptin levels.

Leptin is a hormone that is made in fat. When the levels drop it signals the body to take in more food so that it can increase its fat levels to what it "thinks" is normal. This condition is most likely to occur in people who were overweight to begin with yet still sought liposuction as a hopeful "cure".

Caution

Any doctor can perform liposuction with as little as 30 minutes "training" on the equipment. However, since there is so much at stake, and the health risks are real, you should only consider treatment by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon or Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeon who has additional specialized training in liposuction.

Colon Cleaning UV Light; a Concept

Colon Cancer is a killer and about the only way to prevent it from killing you early in life is to detect it in the beginning stages in order to treat it. There are many foods you can eat to keep your colon working well and keep out the bad bacteria build up. Eating right and staying away from vices can help you prevent colon cancer. Here is a concept, which may help kill unwanted harmful bacteria in the colon. This idea stems from the new advances and innovations of UV light to clean water. The only problem is how do you get light where the catch phrase says; ". . . Where the Sun Don't Shine," well here is a thought that perhaps some savvy science major, academic or innovative medical entrepreneur might want to look into?

UV Light is being used to kill bacteria in water filtration applications. It works so well many sewer treatment plants are using huge units to clear bacteria out of the water prior to allowing it to re-enter the ground water, river or ocean. Hospitals have also used UV light to kill bacteria; there are indeed so many applications for such technologies. Perhaps we ought to look into a small marble sized battery operated UV light Device. One, which can be ingested to clean out unwanted bacteria in the stomach and potentially prevent cancer as well. The small marble size device will pass through the entire system into the stool, cleaning as it goes. Then the patient can merely eat some yogurt and other various things to put the good bacteria back into the system. I propose that the marble sized unit UV light flash a the best cycle for good bacteria and/or the worst cycle for bad bacteria. Ranges near or at 5-8 Hz.

There are many super small batteries, which can be used and the unit could be as small as an M & M candy or could be ingested with many of these little guys at a time on a relatively empty stomach. It will clean out the stomach, small intestines, large intestines and the colon using this UV light. It could be a very simple process and very inexpensive. Although it may not sound all too pretty the units could be used over and over again, by washing them in a set of small plastic containers and shaking them up. Similar to the old contact lenses; Saline solution and/or rubbing alcohol and then rinsing, turn them on and re-use or trade back into the doctors office for official service, recharging of batteries and complete sterilization. If you would like a more complete report on my idea, contact me.

What Is a Good Business For a Veteran Retired From The US Navy?

During the 2012 election there was a debate between Governor Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama on the future of the United States Navy. Governor Mitt Romney suggested that the United States needed more U.S. Navy ships. The president stated that since the ships are more technologically advanced these days, we don't need them in the same numbers as we have in the past. It is true that our Navy is having trouble covering the oceans of the world, but it is also true that President Barack Obama is going to cut military expenditures.

The DOD has already decided that it will cut $500 billion over the next decade, and that's probably just a down payment. What does this mean for the U.S. Navy? It means there will be fewer ships. Therefore we will need fewer sailors and seamen. Where will they go? Well, the military will let these individuals go with honorable discharges, and a number of people through attrition. They've already started. Many Navy bases are down to bare-bones already. Robotic ships will take over, and there will be less need for that many seamen (in theory as per the current President's plan).

Okay so, that means that all these retired veteran Navy personnel will be looking for work in the private sector. You must also recall that our unemployment is over 8% right now, and it will surely climb after 2013 as the federal government decides to cut its budget. What if these former Navy veterans can't get work in the private sector? Well, maybe they can start their own business. They have experience, know-how, hard work ethic, and they tend to fall the rules and do everything by proper procedures.

Might I suggest a small business in the marine sector?

How about cleaning and detailing boats?

How about upkeep services for high-end yachts and sailboats?

You may not have been thinking here, but I can tell you from being in the business previously that it is a good business, albeit hard work. Boat and yacht owners will trust retired military U.S. Navy personnel because of their service. It's hard to get someone to clean your boat and do proper detailing and find someone who will be punctual. That's certainly wouldn't be a problem for a Navy retired veteran.

Doing what you say you are going to do in this sector is paramount, and it's the same way in the U.S. Navy. Therefore this might be one potential option, and therefore I ask that you please consider all this and think on it.

Chronic Pain Management for Cancer Patients

Chronic untreated pain is debilitating, it dramatically affects a patient's ability to participate in daily routines and in some cases takes away their will to live. Tragically, many people are suffering chronic pain unnecessarily. This in part, due to them not being made aware of the importance of pain management and being shown the simple tools necessary to achieve it. Lack of knowledge regarding the benefits and side effects of available medication is also a factor.

Many patients associate morphine and methadone with drug addiction and are reluctant to take it due to their belief that it will cause them to become "high" or sedated, this and their attempts to brave out the pain, results in their pain spirally out of control. This could be prevented if they were informed that chronic pain effectively "uses up" medication and that these drugs when taken for the relief of pain associated with cancer, can dramatically reduce both the occurrence and intensity of pain, without causing sedation.

Not long after my husband's terminal cancer diagnosis, I observed that despite his medication, he was in considerable pain and this upset me greatly - determined to help him, I turned to the internet to learn about the progressive symptoms of his disease, the pain he would experience and methods available to control it.

One of the most important things I learned, was that in order to obtain the best possible pain control - medication must be taken at regular prescribed times, regardless of whether pain is or isn't present, effectively keeping in front of the pain.

I learned that there are different types of pain and that not all pain responds to the same medication; and how to measure intensity of pain and encouraged Brian to communicate to me - the type of pain he was experiencing and its intensity by using a pain scale. Brian soon realized the benefits of this - It was an immense relief for him- to know that I understood what he was experiencing and more importantly - that I could do something about it.

Despite the large amount of methadone Brian was taking; he remained active and alert, drove his car for eighteen months after diagnosis and was able to continue going fishing, which was the passion of his life. Keeping him out of pain became the reason for my existence and I was vigilant in giving him his medication at prescribed times.

There were many occasions when caring but uninformed loved ones and friends, said to me. "Brian does not need for you to be giving him medication at this time - he is not in pain". And I would patiently explain to them, that the reason Brian was not in pain, was because the regular medication he was receiving effectively allowed for him to remain in front of it.

Experience has taught me that knowledge is the key, to better quality of life, not only for the cancer patient but for those who care for them. My understanding of the stages and symptoms of Brian's disease, allowed for me to be one step ahead of its progression and gave me the opportunity to have medication and later, physical aids such as oxygen, wheelchair etc - on hand BEFORE Brian needed them. This alleviated much of the fear, pain and discomfort he would otherwise have suffered.

Guide to Buy Individual Health Insurance Plans

Most people prefer to stay without any kind of coverage than going for an individual plan as the later is costlier policy to buy.

WHEN TO GO FOR AN INDIVIDUAL PLAN? Individual plans are not generally preferred by people as they are not cost effective. However if a person is self employed, or his family insurance does not cover him or if he is between jobs, then the only alternative that he has is to go for an individual medical plan.

TYPES OF INDIVIDUAL PLANS While a person in such a situation has no other option, but to go for an individual plan, the choice lies in the kind of plan he opts for. There are various medical plans that are not too heavy on the pocket. Here is a look at the few of them.

- Preferred Provider Organization: This is the most popular individual plan. Though there is a network of healthcare providers, one can opt for a doctor outside the network as well. In a case of emergency, the beneficiary may not even have to pay extra for consulting a doctor outside the network.

- Health Maintenance Organization: It is a basic individual plan and is the best option when one has financial constraint. The plan focuses on providing primary and preventive treatment.

- Indemnity plan: It provides insurance based on deductibles and upto the maximum allowed for that policy.

QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWERED When looking to buy one of the costliest type of medical plan, it is important that you are satisfied that it provides you with exactly the kind of coverage that you are looking. A quick checklist on the following and you can be assured of the coverage.

- Is your choice of doctor included in the provided network? - Will it cover your medical expenses outside your state? - Will your existing medical condition affect your coverage? - What will be the deductible, premium and the co-insurance that I am supposed to pay? - What are the benefits specific to the plan I am opting for?

TIPS TO GET YOUR INDIVIDUAL PLAN CHEAP Agreed that individual plans are expensive, but that does not mean there is no way around. If you study carefully, then you will surely come across plans that are comparatively cheaper.

Agreeing to pay a higher deductible automatically means that you are paying a lesser premium. So if you looking for a plan that hopefully you will never use, then this is a good permutation to look for.

One can also lower the premium by excluding certain health services in the plan. For example, if you have no plans of motherhood at the moment, then why pay more for maternity benefits in your medical plans.

However, the sure shot way getting a plan at a cheaper rate is to purchase it as soon as possible. Premium depends on the medical status and age of the person which basically means the older you get, the more premium you have to pay. Hence the idea is to buy your individual plan now so that you don't have to pay more for it later on.

INDIVIDUAL PLANS AFTER THE REFORMS There is a common misconception that one has to pay more after the reforms are implemented. But in fact, premiums could go down by 14 to 20 % after the Act is implemented. And with the tax credits being available to the residents, individual premiums could depreciate further by about 60%. Individuals do not have to pay more for co-pays and deductibles either as there would be a cap on how much one pays from his pocket.

Individual plans will also come with a bouquet of other essential benefits. This will include prevention and wellness benefits at no extra charge, recommended vaccination and an access to the state-based Exchange. They will also allow people to choose their own doctor from the participating providers. Also there would be no prior authorization required to visit an ob-gyn.

Buying an individual medical plan can be tough no doubt, but with a cautious approach and the right research, one will be able to grab a really good deal for himself.
